Meet Frances Landers!
Reading Hope Personified: Frances Maschal Landers, you’ll marvel at the faith and persistence of a woman from Arkansas and a priest from Haiti. Together, they followed God’s lead and changed tens of thousands of lives through education.
Frances Landers took her first mission trip to Haiti when she was sixty, thinking she’d never go again. God had other plans. When Frances passed away more than thirty years later, she had gone to Haiti forty-three times, had funded schools in forty mountain villages, and had raised scholarship money for over ten thousand students each year.
“We were just going to go once and then, you know, get back on the golf course.”
Frances Maschal Landers, 2002
Today, Frances’ Haiti Education Foundation continues her legacy, applying one hundred percent of donations to the children and their schools.
In Hope Personified, you will meet many of the people who helped Frances change history in the rugged, formerly illiterate countryside southwest of Port-au-Prince. Frances partnered with the tireless Episcopal priest, Jean-Wilfrid Albert, and together they gained hundreds of supporters across the United States, many still active today in the ministry.
Hope Personified: Frances Maschal Landers is a highly enjoyable story and a fascinating look at the challenges and rewards of mission service.
